This 2-bay Airslide hopper was built in the 1970s for Burlington Northern. The Airslide hopper was specially designed with an air-permeable layer inside the bays that could help loosen fine-grained commodities that would often settle en-route, like powdered sugar, thus making unloading easier. Burlington Northern was formed through the mergers of Great Northern and Northern Pacific in 1970, and then merged with ATSF in 1995 to form BNSF.
